This charming sculpture depicts a hare in the act of twisting it's head and carefully preening itself.
It is a one off animal sculpture made by Brian Hollingworth as a study for a larger garden sculpture. The sculpture was fired twice in a kiln. The second firing to 1260C changing the clay into high fired stoneware. The sculpture has a brown glaze that is slightly thicker in creases around the from. These variations gives tones to the glazed colour. This is a ceramic wildlife sculpture without the bronze glaze used in much of Brian's animal sculpture.
Size 21cms Sold -Similar can be commissioned. (It cannot be exactly the same as every ceramic sculpture is a hand modeled unique piece)

The first picture shows the hare sculpture in the process of being modeled in clay. It is then dried and fired in an electric kiln to 1000C. Bronze glaze is applied by hand to the surface, The animal sculpture is refired to 1260C. This changes the clay to a hard material known as stoneware. the glaze becomes changed into a bronze surface that has subtle changes of colour and texture. It is a quite unique fine art sculpture.
Size 37cms high.

This elephant sculpture is a sculpture finished by smoking in a raku kiln. Brian Hollingworth no longer does this type of work. However he has recently decided that the elephant sculpture will be available for sale.

This sculpture of a heavy horse was inspired after seeing the heavy horses in action at the Royal Agricultural Show. Brian Hollingworth spent hours observing and drawing the horses there.
On return he made this superb sculpture of one of the heavy horses. Fired in his kiln to 1600C ths sculpture has become stoneware a strong ceramic material. The brown treacle glaze gives a wonderful finish to the sculpture.

Young Polar Bear Cubs - Marble Resin

A new finish for Brian Hollingworth sculpture. There are some subjects that just have to be white !
This small sculpture has a lot of charm being two polar bear cubs linked together making a simple sculptural form.
Young Brown Bear
This small bear sculpture is from a series of bear animal sculptures made by Brian Hollingworth as part of an experimental series. He was looking for glazed ceramic work that could give the appearance of the depth of fur grown in winter, By applying layers of glaze, he discovered that the effect he wanted could be achieved. This delightful sculpture has to be actually seen to appreciate the quality of the surface.
Brian kept this piece for his own collection, but now that his interest is in the bronzed surfaces he can now achieve, it is now available for sale.

Polar Bear
A study of a polar bear in its thick winter coat. The left foot is slightly raised showing the under paw. This characteristic pose is typical of Brian Hollingworth's work; the little detail that adds so much to the sculpture.
It is suitable for garden or interior display having been fired to 1260C. This changes the ceramic sculpture into stoneware; a hard durable form of fired ceramic.
Size 30cm high. Additional pictures available on request

Sitting Black Bear
The black bear is found all over North America, being the most common bear. In the sculpture the bear is seen sitting head slightly tilted looking across to the left. The surface texture suggests the heavy fur, but at the same time indicates the basic anatomy beneath.
The finish has a black sheen like basalt. Josiah Wedgewood developed a clay which he called basalt ware. Brian Hollingworth has a wide knowledge and interest in the history of ceramics. The finish on the Black Bear has used this idea from the past, bringing it into sculptural ceramics of the present..
It is an example of a surface finish the perfectly suits the sculptural subject.

A very unusual sculpture of a prowling polar bear hunting seals. The Polar bear is camouflaged in the icy wastes of the polar regions. The only part of the bear that is visible is the dark nose as he crawls across the snow. His hand covers the facial area as he slithers across the surface.
A raku fired sculpture in a white crackle.

Again, using the black basalt finish described above, Brian Hollingworth has created a rhino sculpture that has used this black sheen to enhance an animal sculpture.
The sheen of the basalt finish enhances the sculptural form and the underlying anatomy of the rhino. It is this knowledge not only of the rhino from, but of the muscles and skeleton structure that gives Brian Hollingworth's rhino sculpture its unique quality.

Small Bronze Glazed Pig
This is a small but charming ceramic pig. Brian Hollingworth made this to test out the bronze glaze that he now uses to finish his larger sculpture. The effect of the glaze is very like bronze patination. This small item came out very well and shows the range of colour that can be achieved from careful firing of the bronze glaze.
